ICT at the service of the university community

Aiming at exchanging about the potential of "ICT at the service of the university community", this workshop is announced to be held for December 12, 13 and 14, 2017 in Santiago de Cuba. As part and parcel of the Inter-institutional Collaboration Program developed with the support of the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR), said event is organized by the Universidad de Oriente, Cuba and the University of Ghent, Belgium.

The event proposes a space for the exchange of experiences on the contribution of Information and Communication Technologies in both Cuban universities and institutions, and the impact of cooperation within the framework of the VLIR program in Cuba.

"The exchange is intended to improve the services in the network, taking the currently available infrastructure as a starting point. The computerization of the processes of the university ", explains Mr. Eloy Oliveros, Universidad de Oriente (UO) Computerization Manager.

The program announces conferences addressed to the computerization of the processes at the UO, the Academic web, a different glimpse at the UO portal, the Universidad de Oriente HPC and a separate section for software development in the university management.

Héctor Cruz Enríquez, PhD, leader of the project oriented to the Technological Infrastructure for the Informatization and the Communications in the Universidad Martha Abreu de Las Villas (UCLV) will present the main results and the joint action with other universities. In the same way, several sessions of work with partakers from the Jose A. Echevarria Technological University (CUJAE), the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI) among others, are set aside.

"This is a conference we hold every year" - MSc José Cuza Freire, Cuban leader of the TP1 aimed at strengthening the Infrastructure for Technologies and Communications, points out.Such workshop engages researchers from several universities, and we have come to materialize importante cooperation actions from previous exchanges".

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have an increasing impact on the way of communicating, learning and life in general. This is one of the most important areas promoted by the VLIR-IUC Oriente  with the purpose of contributing to scientific research and the links between both Cuban academies and industry.
