The Programme supported by the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR) and the Universidad de Oriente has been a result of both sides work; this has been marked with significant moments etched in our memory. These are some of then.
February, 2012: Peter de Lannoy, VLIR South Coordinator in an encounter with delegates to the High Education Congress “Universidad 2012”. During the Congress were specified the details of the Universidad de Oriente future presentation for the VLIR Program.
April, 2012: The Universidad de Oriente presented the Programme to collaborate in the sustainable development of the Eastern Region of Cuba, with projects aimed to Institutional Strengthening, Environmental Services, and sustainable development in the region´s agriculture; furthermore, biomedical researches on Image Processing, Biopharmaceutical Products resulting from natural sources to boost the biotechnological development; Social Sciences and Heritage conservation, as well as Energy and Clean Technologies to obtain energy.
September, 2012: This delegation of the VLIR Programme visited the Universidad de Oriente in order to draw up the projects as part of the collaboration.
March, 2013: The ambassador of The Kingdom of Belgium in Cuba, Mr. Luc Devolder, visited the Universidad de Oriente with the purpose of knowing details about the implementation of the Programme between the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR) and the Universidad de Oriente.
February, 2014: The Programme between the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR) and the Universidad de Oriente was officially presented. Among the participants were the Consul of The Kingdom of Belgium in Cuba, members of The Flemish Interuniversity Steering Committee, the Vice-rector for Foreign Affairs of the Free University of Brussels as well as the Universidad de Oriente authorities and leaders of the Programme projects.
February, 2014: The Programme takes part with its own stand in the High Education Congress “Universidad 2014”. During the Congress, the Agreement between the National Committee of Scientific Degree and the Free University of Brussels was signed to recognize the certificates given as part of the results of the Programme.
April, 2014: In the context of the Joint Steering Committee, the Programme received the Headmasters of the Eastern Universities, in order to present them the outlined goals and the expected results.
