The birthday of young Cuban researcher is celebrated at the Hasselt University.

The laboratory of the Research Group of Zoology: Taxonomy and Toxicology of the Center for Environmental Sciences of the University of Hasselt started ready to celebrate the 30th birthday of the Cuban researcher Yander Luis Diez García, this Thursday. The researcher has been in the city of Hasselt since July 17th, under the auspices of the bilateral collaboration programme (BOF-Hasselt University under grant BOF15BL09).
The young biologist intends to study and describe the marine microtubellarians collected in Cuba, and similar samples of such organisms from the rest of the world currently, deposited in a collection of this Belgian University. In addition, he has initiated studies of molecular phylogeny of Cuban marine microtubellarians.
As a result of this research stay, Diez García reports the tutoring of a Master's thesis that was defended with excellent results and the writing of two articles that will be submitted to journals of the science web. His work is currently supported by his tutor, PhD. Tom Artois, the PhD co-tutor Patrick Reygel, laboratory technicians Natascha Steffanie and Ria Vanderspikken, and doctoral students Marlies Monnens and Stefan Gobert.
Once he returns to Cuba on October 9th, Yander will be ready for the final stage of his doctoral thesis and surely, this sui generis and very pleasant birthday party, foretells promising successes to a young researcher who celebrates today, his first 30 years.
